'The story of love', a beautiful work from Vichoke Mukdamanee, a Thai National Artist, is ready for audiences to experience a story of love between Naga, the mythical creatute that has form of a great snake, and a local human.

Prof. Vichoke Mukdamanee, a Thai National Artist, is inspired by the story of love between Naga, the mythical creature that has the form of a great snake, and a local human. The story is part of the famous folk tale that relates to the mythical belief regarding the beginning of several landmarks and island in Krabi and nearby provinces. Using objects from local wedding ceremonies, Mukdamanee creates semi-abstract metal sculptures and animates the forms. The multiple, sculptural structures are lined up to imitate a ceremony or ritual on the sandy bank of the Krabi River, which the artist sees as the connecting space between water and land, the imaginative world and reality, and between nature and humans. Story of Love brings audiences back to local narratives and recalls the harmonious feelings among people, no matter how different they are.

ศิลปินแห่งชาติ วิโชค มุกดามณี ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจ จากเรื่องราวความรักระหว่างพญานาคกับคนพื้นเมือง เรื่องราวนี้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของตำนานอันโด่งดัง เกี่ยวกับความเชื่อเรื่องลี้ลับที่ว่าด้วยต้นกำเนิด ของสถานที่สำคัญหลายแห่งและเกาะในกระบี่ รวมทั้ง จังหวัดใกล้เคียง วิโชคได้สร้างโครงสร้างฉลุทำด้วย โลหะในรูปแบบกึ่งนามธรรมและนำเอาสิ่งของต่างๆ ที่ใช้ในพิธีฉลองงานแต่งงานตามวัฒนธรรมไทย มาใช้ในการทำรูปทรงต่างๆ ขึ้นมา โครงสร้างทาง ประติมากรรมมากมายจะถูกจัดวางเรียงรายกัน เพื่อที่จะเลียนแบบงานฉลองและพิธีกรรมต่างๆ ริมฝั่งแม่นำ้กระบี่ ซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่ที่ตัวศิลปินมองว่า เป็นรอยต่อระหว่างผืนน้ำกับแผ่นดิน ระหว่างโลก จินตนาการกับโลกความเป็นจริง ระหว่างธรรมชาติ กับมนุษย์ Story of Love จะนำผู้ชมกลับไปสู่ เรื่องเล่าท้องถิ่นและรำลึกถึงความกลมเกลียวกัน ในหมู่ผู้คนไม่ว่าพวกเขาจะแตกต่างกันมากเพียงใด

สำนักงานศิลปวัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัย กระทรวงวัฒนธรรม ได้กำหนดจัดโครงการการแสดงศิลปกรรมร่วมสมัย นานาชาติขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรกของประเทศไทย ภายใต้ชื่อ Thailand Biennale โดยมีเป้าหมายที่จะจัดโครงการทุก 2 ปี ในแต่ละจังหวัดทั่วประเทศไทย ตามลักษณะของการจัดนิทรรศการหรือเทศกาลศิลปะนานาชาติเบียนนาเล่ (biennale) ที่จัดขึ้นทุกสองปี ซึ่งความแตกต่างและความพิเศษของการจัดการแสดงศิลปกรรมร่วมสมัยนานาชาติครั้งแรกของประเทศไทยคือพื้นที่จัดแสดง โดยผลงานศิลปะจะถูกจัดวางอยู่กลางแจ้งในพื้นที่ทางธรรมชาติหลายพื้นที่ในจังหวัดกระบี่ ในรูปแบบของศิลปะเฉพาะที่ (site – specific art) กล่าวคือ เป็นงานศิลปะที่สร้ำงขึ้นบนตำแหน่งที่เฉพาะ

Rubber Life / ชีวิตของยาง

ศราวุธ ดวงจำปา ประติมากรและศิลปินแห่งชาติ ของไทยประจำปี พ.ศ.2560 ไม่นานมานี้เขา เริ่มทำงานจัดวางและงานวัสดุเก็บตก ตั้งใจจะทำงาน กับวัสดุในท้องถิ่น โดยได้ทำการสำรวจทั่วจังหวัด กระบี่มาแล้วและสนใจในพืชเศรษฐกิจอย่างต้นยาง ซึ่งชาวสวนยางในประเทศไทยประสบปัญหาเศรษฐกิจ มาสักพักหนึ่งแล้ว เนื่องจากการปลูกยางกลายเป็น ที่นิยมแพร่หลายไปทั่วประเทศ ราคาผลผลิตยางจึง ต่ำมาก แม้ว่าขั้นตอนการผลิตจะมีความยากก็ตาม ผลงาน ชีวิตของยาง เป็นการเน้นความสำคัญและ คุณค่าของต้นยางโดยการนำผลิตภัณฑ์ต่างๆ มาแสดงในบริเวณที่มีการปลูกยาง วัตถุต่างๆ ที่ ศิลปินเลือกมาแสดงไม่ได้ผ่านการเลือกมาแบบสุ่มๆ แต่ผ่านการศึกษาวิจัยไปจนถึงการทำงานกับเจ้าหน้าที่ ในท้องถิ่นที่เชี่ยวชาญด้านยาง ผลงานชิ้นนี้นอกจาก จะเกิดจากการที่ศิลปินทำงานด้วยวัสดุตามจารีตแล้ว มันยังเป็นงานจัดวางที่วางแผนไว้อย่างยอดเยี่ยม แต่ ภายหลังมันจะค่อยๆ เปลี่ยนไปตามธรรมชาติของ พื้นที่ในช่วงเวลาที่งานยังจัดวางอยู่

National Artist of Thailand, Saravudth DUANGJUMPA does not rely on one material, but explores the possibility of both traditional materials and found objects that are generally of an ecological nature. -About “Rubber Life / ชีวิตของยาง” Saravudth Duangjumpa is a sculptor who was awarded the title of Thai National Artist in 2017. Recently he has generated installations with art and found objects. The artist explored Krabi and has become fascinated by the industrial crop of rubber trees. Rubber farmers in Thailand have faced economic issues for quite some time. Due to extensive cultivation of rubber trees across the country, the cost estimations tend to be very low despite the difficulty of producing rubber. Working with local materials and being located within rubber tree plantations, Rubber Life emphasizes the importance and value of rubber trees by showcasing products and outcomes. The objects Saravudth chose are not random but are chosen through his research and working with local authorities who specialize in rubber. Deriving from his past practice with traditional material, this installation is also beautifully planned but was later spontaneously altered according to the nature of the space during installation.

Many of his works are the legacy from a journey he made after he graduated from Silpakorn University in 1961. Before venturing abroad, Inson rode his Lambretta Scooter and traveled to various provinces in Thailand in 1961. A year later, he held a successful solo exhibition of the works he had accomplished at a tourist organization in Bangkok to raise personal funds for his long journey to foreign countries. With encouragement and support from Italian professor Silp Bhirasri (Corrado Feroci), the founder and the first dean of Silpakorn University who gave Inson valuable advice to find additional inspiration in foreign nations, he carried his art equipment and rolls of woodcut prints that depict scenes of rural life in Thailand to represent his home country. He also exhibited these woodcut prints along with new works he created during the journey.

In 1963 he held many exhibitions in various major cities such as New Delhi, Lahore, Karachi, Tehran, Istanbul and Athens. He also went to visit Rome and held an exhibition in Florence and then moved to live in Paris temporarily from 1963 -1966. He opened a workshop and studio there.

After that, he moved to Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, USA. He married a French/American woman. Their son is the co -owner of Inson Dubois Wood, a New York based Architectural and Interior Design firm. He is an architect, a graduate of Harvard University and has a rich background of life like his father. The objective of his company is to help discover, reveal and refine design identity. In over 40 acres in New York, beautiful woodcarving collections from tasteful and famous people in America can be seen in the showroom. The firm received awards such as New York Architect Interior Designer, Living Scandinavia Style, Lux Interior Design, Jan 2015 and New York Space.
